Two-day UDID camp in Jiribam, brings specialist care, aids to persons with disabilities

A two-day UDID assessment and certification camp, coupled with distribution of aids and appliances, was held at the ICD office in Jiribam on Monday and Tuesday.
The camp was organised by the State Welfare Commission for Persons with Disabilities, Manipur, in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department, Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Jiribam; Office of the Chief Medical Officer, Jiribam; CRCSRE; ALIMCO; DSWO; and ARM, Jiribam.
Specialist doctors from Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Imphal, attended the camp and provided focused medical treatment for persons with disabilities. W. Birahari Singha, State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, said the JNIMS team — which included four specialist doctors — travelled to Jiribam to make up for the shortage of local specialists and to ensure beneficiaries received both medical care and necessary assistive devices.
Speaking to media persons, Birahari Singha emphasized the importance of the UDID (Unique Disability ID) certificate, noting that it enables access to a range of government benefits including pension schemes, scholarships and eligibility for certain government jobs. “It is essential to get a UDID certificate to reap the benefits available to persons with disabilities,” he said.
The camp aimed to streamline certification, provide immediate medical support and distribute aids and appliances to improve mobility and daily living for persons with Disabilities beneficiaries in the Jiribam area.
