Turmoil continues; life paralysed as curfew imposed but there is no let up in protest against CAB in Manipur

Manipur continues to reel under serious turmoil as there were no let up in the protest against the contentious Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016. Normal life was completely paralysed as district administration of Imphal West as well as Imphal East clamped indefinite curfew but protest of various kind was witnessed by the people at various places of the state including at Imphal by violating the curfew. At Khumbong area under Lamsang police station large number of anti CAB protestors confronted police team who tried to stop them. A Samarendro, a former journalist and a local leader was reportedly assaulted inhumanly by a police personnel.

People Alliance of Manipur (PAM) and Manipur Peoples Against CAB (MANCAB) has been spearheading the peoples’ movement against the passing of the CAB. 

At Kiyamgei Pal Ahanbi, male protestors numbering around 100 pull down there pants and showed their bum at the temporary office of BJP Manipur Pradesh at Kiyamgei showing their anger to the BJP for pushing to pass the CAB. 

Speaking to the media person one of the protestor, who identified himself as Sanajaoba said that the protest is against the BJP’s genocide mission to the people of the region.

“Cut our private parts so that there will be no further offspring of the indigenous people in future”, shouted the protestors terming that CAB is no different from killing the indigenous people of the state.

At many places of the state various protestors in every nook and corner of the state blocked roads, staged sit-in-protest, organised rallies and burnt effigies of PM and CM.

Mass protest was also organised at Thoubal District from dawn by blocking National Highway No.2 prohibiting passersby except essential services. Women folks stayed the whole night. In morning around 10:30 A.M, people blocks the road and burned the effigies of PM and CM at Thoubal market and Wangjing.

Earlier students of Manipur University organised a Candle light protest against the contentious CAB.
