Thadou Students’ Association – Sadar Hills (TSA-Sadar Hills) has extended its support to the ongoing indefinite economic blockade called by the All Tribal Students’ Union, Manipur (ATSUM) since the midnight of June 22. The association said that it will enforce the blockade on National
Highways passing through Sadar Hills.
A press statement said that Thadou Students’ Association is one of the federating units of ATSUM and will continue to support any intensified agitation in the interests of all the tribal communities of Manipur.
“The union’s legitimate demands, which have been long overdue, are necessary for the much needed development of tribals, protection of their rights and fulfilment of their aspirations as guaranteed by the Indian constitution”, the statement added. It further said that fulfilment of the demands will also help close the gap between the tribals and non-tribals communities in Manipur, and this will further (re)create the atmosphere of peaceful coexistence amongst all communities on the basis of mutual respect and recognition.
