Imphal, July 30: A Shaktiman truck was set ablaze at Korengei Bazar in Imphal West after local meira paibis of the area caught it red handed while ferrying 34 non locals from outside the state. The incident happened at around 8 am yesterday. The registration of the Shaktiman truck is AS 14-A-9132. Informed source said that the non-locals were labourers engaging for construction of the Indira Gandhi Tribal University at Kanglatombi. On verification only nine of them were found to have possessed valid identification cards.

Fueled by the government’s inaction to the demand for implementation of the Inner Line Permit System, some of the people gathered at the spot pour their anger by physically assaulting some of the non-locals without proper identification document. As according to their statement the non-locals were from Bengal, Assam, Bihar and Mumbai and were mostly Muslim.
