Persons suspected to be volunteers of Sekmai Protection Committee and the Advance Women Society Sekmai set ablaze a truck at Sekmai River bed at around 9 am today. The registration number of the truck is MN03 – T/1093 and was found with sands loaded in it. Name of the owner is Thoudam Devan (50) of Khonghampat Mayai Leikai. The driver of the truck has been identified Laishram Ibomcha Singh of Khonghampat Awang Leikai. According to report the truck was set ablaze by some persons suspected to be the volunteers of the two organizations which had imposed restriction to the quarrying of sand from the Sekmai Riverbed. As the truck was found to be loaded with sand, it is believe that the truck might have been set ablaze for violating prohibition imposed against quarrying of sand from Sekmai River. Both the front tyres of the truck were totally burnt in the arson.
