The investigation into the April 7 bomb attack at Tronglaobi in Bishnupur district is ongoing, with search operations continuing in the area, Manipur Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam said today.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the 176th death anniversary observance of Maharaja Nara Singh at Kangla Fort, the minister stated that security agencies are actively pursuing multiple leads but declined to disclose details due to the ongoing nature of the probe.
He said security deployment has been intensified in the affected area following the blast, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible.
Responding to public demands for replacement of central forces with state forces in sensitive and peripheral areas, Konthoujam said the government is considering a phased redeployment. He indicated that some central forces, including the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), may be moved to hill areas while state forces take over certain locations. However, he noted that immediate replacement remains difficult due to manpower constraints.
The explosion occurred in the early hours of April 7 at a residence in Tronglaobi, killing two children and injuring their mother. The presence of a nearby CRPF camp has triggered public anger and raised concerns over security arrangements.
In the aftermath, protests have been reported in several areas, with demonstrators condemning the attack and demanding accountability, along with greater deployment of state forces. Security operations remain in progress as the investigation continues.
