Tributes paid to Martyrs on Hunger Marchers’ Day

As observed every year the All Manipur Students; Union today observed Hunger Marchers’ Day by paying floral tributes to the portraits of the 4 martyrs who had sacrificed their live during the mass uprising while protesting the artificial famine on this day of 1965 at Pishum Chinga Macha . However, due to the present COVID-19 pandemic the student body did not organised in a large scale .
During the uprising three students, namely Laishram Chaobal, Oinam Nabakumar and Nongmeikapam Pramodini were killed on August 27, 1965 when police fired upon a large number of students and public who took out a protest rally against artificial famine created by wanton export of rice from the State while All India Radio driver Waikhom Nilamani succumbed to injuries the next day, after he was hit by a bullet.
