Freelance journalist, Lekhendro Loukham , who have been associating with various newspapers published here in the state including Imphal Times but working with Senmitlon Journal passes away at around 8 pm yesterday after succumbing to an illness. He was 47 years old and is survived by 3 daughters and his wife.
President of the All Manipur Working Journalist Union and other members and members of Editors’ Guild Manipur paid floral tribute to the departed journalist in recognition to his service for the welfare of the journalist communities.
Late Lekhendro not only confined with journalism field but has also been associated with various social service activities. While serving as a journalist he was also a member of the Red Cross Society Manipur and when the pandemic haunted the people he volunteered himself to provide all possible assistance to those in need. He travelled at far flung interior hill district villages to provide assistance along with his colleague before he suddenly felt ill. Family source said, he was hospitalized after BP stroke while returning from hard day work for the people some 5/6 days back.
After completing matriculation from Ram Lal Pal High School , he joined the All Manipur Students’ Union and had led various agitation for the cause of the society. He had taken major role during the agitation against the Armed Forces Special Powers Act 1958 after during early 2000s.
He was also the member of the FIN Society, COPAI and took active role in the formation of IRABOT FOUNDATION MANIPUR.
Staffs of Imphal Times condoles the sudden and untimely demise of Lekhen.
