A mass tree plantation program under the aegis of the Siksha Vikash Samiti, Manipur was held at Bal Vidya Mandir, Kakching today.
About 100 seedlings of different species were planted in the program. N. Munal Meitei, Vice- President, Siksha Vikash Samiti, Manipur, N. Amuyaima Singh, President, Bal Vidya Mandir Kakching, Y. Kirankumari Devi, Principal of the School and other teachers and School Management Committee members were present in the program.
Speaking at the function, N. Munal Meitei told that today we are organising the tree plantation program in this school where students are from Nursery and KG classes. Why we are organising here, because we are going to hand over our present environment to these young generation and they will again hand it over to their next generation.
Therefore these small children who are the Pillars of the Nation need to know the importance of our environment. To save the environment and ecology from degradation is their most important priority. They must try to save the environment from all forms of degradation so that they can hand it over a very clean and beautiful environment to their next generation again.
Munal Meitei also lamented that now-a-days, in the media, somebody told that people are more interested for publicity by clicking photographs etc. on such tree plantation program. They claim that they hardly take care of the planted saplings after the event is over.
Regarding this, N. Munal Meitei reminded the slogan of Wangari Muttah Maathai, the recipient of 2004, Nobel peace prize that she once told “Whatever the cause it may be, just dig a pit and plant a tree, then you have sown the seed for peace and hope”. Munal requested to support all forms of plantation activities and to invite more and more people to participate in plantation. We also need to make all the planted trees to survive successfully.
If every citizen of the country took part in such tree plantation movement, then we will surely have such an environment where there are full of greeneries, full of birds and animals and ultimately a very beautiful planet where mankind and all living beings can survive happily and peacefully.
