A two-day training programme on “Aquarium Fabrication to Biofloc Fish Farming: Enhancing Fish and Fisheries Productivity” was recently conducted at T. S. Paul Manipur Women’s College, Mongsangei. The event was organized by the Department of Zoology in collaboration with the college’s Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), and was held on the 12th and 13th of July, 2025.
According to the organisers, around 60 participants, primarily students from various academic streams of the college, actively took part in the programme. The training was conducted as part of an ongoing academic collaboration under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Department of Zoology of T. S. Paul Manipur Women’s College and the Department of Zoology at Kirori Mal College, University of Delhi. The MoU aims to promote sustainable aquaculture practices through joint academic initiatives.
Dr. Lukram Ingochouba Meetei, Head of the Department of Zoology at Kirori Mal College, University of Delhi, facilitated the training sessions. He reportedly highlighted the scope and benefits of aquarium fabrication and biofloc fish farming, particularly in the context of sustainability, livelihood generation, and enhanced fish productivity. Participants were given exposure to both theoretical knowledge and practical demonstrations on these innovative aquaculture techniques.
The college authorities stated that the training aligned with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 by equipping students with practical, cost-effective, and environmentally responsible skills. The programme also reflected the college’s broader commitment to academic excellence and its goal of contributing positively to society.
