Imphal, Jan 30:
In a bid to curb noise pollution and enforce traffic regulations, the Traffic Police Wing of Manipur, led by SP Pramesh Arambam, has announced a strict crackdown on illegally modified silencers in motorbikes and cars. The move comes amid increasing complaints about excessively loud vehicles disrupting public spaces.
The initiative is being undertaken as part of the “Sadak Suraksha Jeevan Raksha” (Road Safety, Life Protection) campaign, which was launched at Nongchup Sanathong, Kangla under the National Road Safety Month.
As part of the campaign, a Road Safety Show will be displayed on large TV screens to educate drivers and pedestrians about traffic rules. Additionally, SP Pramesh personally inspected vehicles at the event, ensuring compliance with road safety norms.
Further, awareness campaigns will be conducted in schools, colleges, and other public places to educate people about the importance of following traffic rules. The initiative will also include video screenings on traffic regulations at key locations to reinforce awareness among the public.
Highlighting the illegality of loud and modified silencers, SP Pramesh stated, “Using these modified silencers is not just a violation of the law but also a public nuisance, disturbing citizens and causing unnecessary noise pollution.” He emphasized that the Traffic Police will take strict action against violators and urged vehicle owners to comply with standard regulations.
