Total lunar eclipse to be visible in Imphal on September 7

The Office of the Khelchanglon Loishang, Laimingthou Sanamahi Temple Board, has announced that a total lunar eclipse will be visible in Imphal on September 7, 2025 (Sunday). According to the official notification, the celestial event will be observable across the region with clear timings provided for devotees and the general public.
The eclipse will begin with the penumbral phase at 9:56 PM IST on September 7. The partial eclipse will follow at 11:14 PM IST, with the total eclipse starting from 12:26 AM IST (September 8). The total phase will end at 1:40 AM IST, while the penumbral eclipse will conclude by 3:36 AM IST.
A statement further highlighted the significance of the event from a religious and cultural perspective. Devotees were informed about traditional practices associated with the eclipse, including restrictions on food consumption and religious observances during the period of eclipse visibility.
The Temple Board also issued a special note clarifying that the lunar eclipse will coincide with Bhadrapada Purnima (full moon day), which holds particular importance in the Meitei religious calendar.
Thongbam Premjit Meetei, Khelchanglon Shanglakpa of the Laimingthou Sanamahi Temple Board, signed the notice urging the people of Manipur to observe the day with awareness of its cultural and spiritual values.
