Tonnes of plastic waste collected at Sendra

In a major environmental drive, a week-long Plastic Waste Collection Campaign held at Sendra from October 1 to 7, 2025, successfully collected a huge volume of plastic waste, underscoring the community’s commitment to protecting one of Manipur’s prime tourist and ecological destinations.
Organised under the Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, Government of Manipur, the campaign was led by the Anouba Mangal Foundation (AMF), Sendra, in association with the Sendra Youth Club, Loktak Lake Tourism Development Cooperative Society Ltd., Hee Yai Self Help Group, Sendra Ningthou Self Help Group, and players from the Bishnupur District Canoeing, Kayaking and Rowing Association.
The initiative combined action-oriented plastic waste collection drives with awareness programmes, engaging locals in sustainable waste management. A key feature of the campaign was a waste segregation demonstration by the women-led Hee Yai and Sendra Ningthou Self Help Groups, highlighting the importance of sorting waste at the source and inspiring the community to adopt eco-friendly practices.
The closing ceremony at the IWT Complex, Sendra, was attended by eminent dignitaries, including Dr. T. Brajakumar Singh, Director, Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, as Chief Guest; M. Ibosana Singh, Advisor, Sendra Youth Club, as President; and Dr. W. Roshan Singh, Member Secretary, Manipur Pollution Control Board, as Guest of Honour.
