Ukhrul, Nov 13:
In response to the November 11 attack on Tangkhul farmers in Yaingangpokpi, the Tangkhul Naga Foothills Organisation (TNFO), along with Tangkhul Naga CSO leaders, held a joint meeting to address the incident and issue a strong condemnation. The TNFO highlighted the brutal assault on Mr. Kanshok Horam of New Canaan village, who was wounded while working with his friends in a paddy field. The attack, described as a “senseless, inhuman, and cowardly” act, was allegedly orchestrated from a Kuki bunker. TNFO warned that this provocative act would be met with a “befitting response” if not addressed immediately.
The TNFO emphasized that state and central armed forces, present during the incident, failed to intervene, questioning their ability or willingness to protect civilians outside the warring factions. TNFO urged that these forces be removed if they cannot provide adequate protection.
Further, TNFO held the Manipur government accountable, demanding that it take immediate action to apprehend the culprits, ensure farmers’ safety during the harvest season, and compensate the victims. If these demands are unmet within three days, TNFO warned that they would take further action and hold the government responsible for any escalation.
