TNFO demands immediate sealing of 14 SoO camps after Sunurok attack

Ukhrul, October 30:
The Tangkhul Naga Foothills Organisation (TNFO) has demanded the immediate sealing of all 14 remaining Suspension of Operations (SoO)-designated camps across Manipur pending comprehensive security verification, following the October 19 attack near Khongbal Tangkhul village (Sunurok).

In a statement issued through its Information Cell, the TNFO commended the Government of Manipur and combined security forces, including Manipur Police, CRPF’s CoBRA Battalion and Assam Rifles, for their swift response and subsequent takeover of ShamuShang (Sinai) Camp. However, it said the reported recovery of firearms, explosives and other combat equipment from the camp had raised serious questions about the monitoring and enforcement of SoO ground rules.

Citing allegations raised by COCOMI and Thadou Inpi Manipur (TIM), the organisation called for an impartial investigation into the alleged involvement of cadres of the Kuki National Army (KNA) and Kuki Liberation Army (KLA), and their possible links with other armed groups associated with the SoO arrangement, including KRA and KNF-P.

The TNFO demanded a comprehensive camp-by-camp physical and biometric audit of all remaining designated camps, verification of occupants against official registration records, and a complete inventory of weapons and military equipment. It also sought scrutiny of discrepancies in cadre strength and registration.

Stressing that the investigation must not end with Sinai Camp, the organisation demanded a time-bound probe into the Sunurok attack, including possible intelligence failures, security lapses and wider operational coordination.
