The Tangkhul Naga Film Association (TNFA) has strongly condemned a recent attempt to malign the reputation of Samurailatpam Naha Sharma, the renowned Manipuri singer popularly known as Naba Volcano.
Naba Sharma, who attended the 5th Tangkhul Naga Film Festival as Chief Guest on 28th and 29th March 2025 at Ambrose Hotel, Ukhrul, had performed a duet of the popular song “Chinggi Echal” alongside Tangkhul singer and actor Rosemary Shaiza during the award distribution ceremony. The performance was later uploaded on the official YouTube channel of the TNFA.
The Association expressed concern that certain individuals with vested interests have circulated a maliciously edited version of the performance on social media, accompanied by false and misleading claims of inappropriate behaviour. TNFA stated that these clips deliberately distort an innocent artistic interaction, amounting to character assassination against a revered artist.
Describing Naba Sharma as not only a celebrated singer but also a cultural icon and advocate of peace and communal harmony, the Association urged those responsible to remove the distorted clips and defamatory comments immediately. TNFA stressed that such actions are deeply irresponsible and contrary to the values of a civilized and cultured society.
