Thoubal, June 21:

Anguished over the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the violence in Manipur which has been reeling in the state for over 45 days large number of people staged protest in Thoubal Mela ground blocking halfway of the Imphal Moreh National Highway. The protestors also burnt the effigies of Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Chief Minister N. Biren Singh after garlanding and hitting with chappals.
Prime Minister Modi left for New York yesterday without meeting any of the delegations from Manipur who have been camping in New Delhi for the past many days to put up their grievances in connection with the ongoing conflict burning the state.
“When Modi cannot douse the fire burning in his own country how could he speak about peace and harmony of the world in USA?”, a protestor told the gathering. The sit-in-protest organised by “Thoubal Apunba Lup”, a joint body of 30 different Clubs, Organisations, and Meira Paibi Lup, which was attended by thousands of people also boycotted the World Yoga Day being celebrated across the state.
A leader of the joint body, Sanjenbam Sorojini said that the silence of the Prime Minister even after 48 days of burning of houses and killing of innocent people by armed Kuki militants is disheartening for the people of Manipur.
“When he (Modi) cannot bring peace in his own country how could he talk of world peace in USA”, Sorojini told media persons. She said that the joint body also condemns the Chief Minister for his inability to solve the present crisis in the state.
