Thawai Mirel has voiced discontent with the Manipur Government’s management of the remains of Kuki community members held in the mortuaries of the Regional Institute of Medical Science, Lamphelpat, and Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences, Porompat. The organization alleges that the government has yet to release the bodies of Meitei individuals who lost their lives in the ongoing Kuki-Meitei conflict spanning over seven months in Manipur.
Paonam Sanahanbi, Co-convenor of Thawai Mirel Women Wing, addressed the media at the Manipur Press Club in Imphal, emphasizing the urgency for the Government of Manipur to promptly deliver the mortal remains of all Meiteis who lost their lives in the recent conflict. She asserted, “Should the government neglect to hand over the bodies of our Meitei brethren today, especially considering their prompt action with the deceased from the Kuki communities, we are prepared to initiate a substantial protest against the government.”
Paonam Sanahanbi continued, expressing concern about the lives lost in the conflict initiated by Kuki terrorists. She questioned the actions of the Government of Manipur, accusing them of taking the bodies from the mortuaries. She challenged, “Who will they blame now to mask their shortcomings? Why, in the dead of night, did the government take away the bodies from the mortuaries of RIMS and JNIMS?”
