Imphal, Aug 7: Local of Thanga Ething of Sendra has strongly condemned the eviction drive carried out by Government authorities on August 3 terming it as “inhuman act”.
At least five persons protesting the eviction drive sustained injury in clashed with the police team.
Speaking to media person at Manipur Press Club today Moirangthem Maipakpi said that The Thanga Ething road was constructed by accumulating the biomass of Loktak Lake by the locals of the area as there were no dry land.
She further said that people of the Thanga are living the most hardship life. Some even can’t afford their children to school. She said after the houses were vandalised and evicted now the people are taking shelter at Sendra Community Hall.
On Wednesday the district administration evicted 11 houses, 37 street vendors and 9 shops from Thanga Ithing Sendra.
Victim families appealed the state government to reconsider the eviction process for the cause of the poor people.
