Imphal, Feb. 26: Tension runs high at Khundrakpam Awang Leikai in Khundrakpam Assembly Constituency early today morning after a police team tried to picked up a person of the locality who is also a sub inspector of Manipur police.
A brief confrontation occurred between the locals of the area and the police team as the police team who came to picked the Sub- Inspector identified as Maibam Khogen Singh. Report said that the police team refused to give any arrest memo if he was supposed to pick up.
As locals of the area swung into action by destroying the police vehicles the police team fire several round of tear gas shells and mock bomb to disperse them.
According to report, the police team led by Additional SP of Imphal East Meghachandra and OC of Imphal East district police commando Vaiphei came in four vehicles at around 3.30 am today. The police team reportedly entered to the residence of SI Maibam Khogen at Khundrapam Awang Leikai. He was charged for firing gunshots late yesterday night and the police team told him to provide the gun. Maibam Khogen is posted at DG Head Quarter.
Later locals of the area organised a public meeting condemning the police action.
