Imphal, Dec 16: Tension runs high between villagers of Senjam Chirang and Haraorok after villagers of the two clashed over land occupation in the bank of the river.
Report reaching here said that a person identified as Ch. Rame, aged about 42 sustained minor injury after villagers of Haroarok fired upon the group of villagers who went to confront over the occupation of land at river bank. The report added that some villagers of Senjam Chirang reportedly rear pig at the river bank which runs through the village. As the many villages including Senjam Chirang, Phumlou and Lamdeng depends on the river water for livelihood the villagers told the villagers of Haraorok to stop rearing of pigs at the river bank.
However as the villagers of Haraorok continue to rear the pigs at the river bank despite repeated appealed a large number of villagers of Senjam Chirang went to Haraorok to talk over the matter. As soon as the villagers reached the site some villagers of Haraorok reportedly fired gunshot towards the group of people injuring Rame. He has been immediately evacuated at hospital.
It may be mentioned that villagers of both the villages have been experiencing souring relationship after the villagers of Haraorok opposed government’s proposal to establish National Sport University at the site. The matter has been however settled by the district administration of Kangpokpi, but the relationship between the two villages remain sour.
