Tension erupts after arrest of village defenders in Mayang Langjing

Tension gripped the Mayang Langjing area in Imphal West district early this morning following the arrest of 14 village defenders, including 3 women, by security forces. A police source has claimed that those detained are affiliated with the armed group KCP.
According to reports, a large number of security forces, led by state police personnel, descended upon the Mayang Langjing Tamang Kameng Sabal area around 2:30 am today. The security team apprehended 14 individuals, whom locals assert were village volunteers.
Eyewitnesses reported that a large number of women attempted to thwart the security forces from arresting the 14 village defenders. However, they were dispersed by tear gas shells and warning shots fired into the air by the security team.
Following the operation, security forces recovered a cache of weapons and ammunition, including 5 carbines, 1 AK-47 rifle, 2 .303 rifles, 1 INSAS rifle, 2 9mm pistols, and 1 double barrel shotgun, along with ammunition. Additionally, several vehicles utilized by the village defenders were seized, including 1 Vespa scooter, 1 Activa scooter, 1 Chevrolet Beat car, 1 Mahindra Bolero, 2 Maruti Gypsy vehicles, and 1 Tata Safari SUV.
