Thadou Community International (TCI) has appreciated Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho for advocating peace and acknowledging the role played by the Thadou community in promoting harmony during periods of ethnic conflict in Manipur.
In a statement, TCI referred to the Deputy Chief Minister’s address as chief guest at the 2026 Zomi Namni festival held in Churachandpur on February 14 and February 20, where he spoke about his experiences with the Thadou community, particularly the residents of Motbung village. Dikho also made similar remarks during his first community outreach programme as Deputy Chief Minister at Motbung Thadou village on February 7.
During these interactions, Losii Dikho acknowledged the efforts of the Thadou community in promoting peace during the Kuki–Naga violence of the 1990s as well as during the Kuki–Meitei violence that began on May 3, 2023. TCI stated that the recognition of the community’s role in peacebuilding was significant.
The organisation, however, expressed concern that references made by the Deputy Chief Minister regarding the contributions of the Thadou community were not adequately reflected in some media reports. TCI observed that despite being one of the largest tribal communities in Manipur, the Thadou community often remains underrepresented in public narratives.
TCI stated that the Deputy Chief Minister’s remarks reflect an inclusive vision for Manipur, highlighting the need for peaceful coexistence among hill and valley communities. The statement also noted that the Thadou community, under the leadership of Thadou Inpi Manipur and with the support of TCI and community members across the world, has continued to advocate peaceful coexistence, respect for indigenous identities and non-violent resolution of conflicts.
The organisation further urged political leaders, government officials, academic institutions and the media to engage responsibly with the complex realities of Manipur’s diverse society. It stated that public representatives should avoid rhetoric that could create divisions among communities.
