Tangkhul Naga bodies issue ultimatum over mob attack on Winger vehicle in Ukhrul

Two Tangkhul Naga student organizations have issued a 24-hour ultimatum demanding immediate action against those allegedly involved in a mob attack on a passenger Winger vehicle along National Highway-202. The incident occurred on Thursday evening near Mongkot Chepu village under Litan police station in Ukhrul district.
The Katho Katamnao Long and the Tangkhul Naga Valley Students’ Association (TNVSA), in a joint statement, accused members of the Kuki community residing along the Ukhrul-Imphal road of instigating the attack. The groups claimed the altercation began after two individuals on a kinetic bike overtook the Winger van and were confronted by the driver for reckless driving. This reportedly led to a physical assault on the driver, followed by a mob gathering that vandalized the vehicle and injured both the driver and a female passenger.
Litan Police confirmed the incident took place around 7:15 pm. However, no FIR has been registered at the time of reporting.
The student bodies condemned the incident and alleged that the village chief of Mongkot Chepu, who was purportedly under the influence of alcohol, threatened the passengers and the driver. They further warned of serious consequences if authorities failed to take action within the given timeframe.
As part of the ultimatum, the organizations announced plans to block movement of Kuki individuals along NH-202 and to impose a ban on their presence in Ukhrul district should their demands go unheeded.
Authorities have yet to issue an official response to the ultimatum.
