Ukhrul, Feb 1:
After three days of continuous protest at the Mini Secretariat gate and the Ukhrul DC residential quarter, the Tangkhul Frontal Organisations have temporarily lifted their agitation following assurances from Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh. The decision came after representatives of the organisations met the Chief Minister in Imphal on Friday night.
The protest, which began on January 30, 2025, was staged in opposition to the transfer order of IAS officer Kengoo Zuringla issued by the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms on January 28. The Tangkhul Frontal Organisations, comprising Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), Tangkhul Shanao Long (TSL), Tangkhul Naga Wungnao Long (TNAL), Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS), and Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (TMNL), had submitted a joint appeal on January 29, urging the government to retain Zuringla in her current post for at least two more years.
Following their meeting with the Chief Minister and trusting his commitment to review the transfer order, the organisations announced the temporary suspension of their protest on Saturday. Speaking to the gathering, TNL Vice President Eno. RS. Jollyson expressed optimism, stating, “We believe something positive will happen in the coming days as per the Chief Minister’s assurance.” He also revealed plans to seek an appointment with the Manipur Governor for further discussions.
After calling off the protest, the demonstrators met with DC Kengoo Zuringla, who expressed humility and gratitude for the community’s support. However, she affirmed her commitment as a government servant, stating that she would abide by any transfer order issued by the state. She also urged the people to extend their cooperation to any official posted in Ukhrul.
In a heartfelt moment, the protesters gathered to pray with the DC, led by Rev. Zaklei Kaping of Phungyo Baptist Church, thanking God for a peaceful resolution. The TNL VP extended gratitude to Hunphun Shanao Long, their associate units, and all supporters who contributed to the protest.
