The souring relationships between Myanmar and India in the aftermath of Covid-19 Pandemic and later Military Coup in Myanmar fails to bridge even after the authority of the two countries make efforts by organising a Regional Border Co-operation meeting that begins from Jan 30 and ended yesterday at IGAR (South) Mantripukhri complex here in Imphal.
The 20 member Myanmar delegates who were here in India at IGAR (South) complex in Mantripukhri, left for Myanmar today after attending the meeting.
A source said that during the Regional Border Co-operation meeting issues of narcotic drug smuggling from Myanmar to India along the Indo-Myanmar borders was discussed. The Indian side also reportedly put up issues about the problem faced by India due to influx of large number of Myanmarese to Indian territories in the aftermath of the conflict arisen between the Tatmadaw (Myanmar army) and the pro democrats.
The meeting also urged the Myanmar authority to reopen the border trade by opening the Namphalong Market, which the Myanmar government reportedly gave no green signal.
Technically the Regional Border Co-operation meeting bears no fruits with none of the major issues coming to any settlement.
After the meeting the 20 members Myanmar delegates were drop till Moreh by 2 (two) Indian Air Force Helicopter MI-17 from IGAR (South) Mantripukhri, Imphal.
Later a team of 5 Assam Rifles guarded the Myanmar delegates till Indo-Myanmar Friendship Bridge.
