Symposium on Gender-Based Violence held at RIMS, Imphal

In observance of Forensic Medicine Day, the Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, organized a thought-provoking symposium on Gender-Based Violence at Banting Hall, RIMS, Imphal.
The event was graced by Prof. N. Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent of RIMS, as Chief Guest; Prof. Th. Meera Devi, Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, as President; and Dr. B. Praveen Reddy, Principal of the Dental College, as Guest of Honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. N. Sanjib Singh stated, “We are here to discuss the pressing issue of gender-based violence. I commend the Forensic Medicine team for their crucial role in documenting and investigating such cases. Gender-based violence, including domestic abuse, dowry burns, and acid attacks, remains largely hidden, and it is our duty as forensic experts to uncover the truth. Let us all take action to fight for justice and dignity for everyone, ensuring proper documentation and support for victims.”
The symposium served as an important platform to shed light on various aspects of gender-based violence, bringing together distinguished speakers and medical professionals to discuss the critical issue. It featured two key presentations: “Gender-Based Violence: An Overview,” which explored the forms, causes, and legal implications of such violence, and “Gender-Based Violence: A Gynaecological Perspective,” which highlighted the challenges faced by gynecologists in treating survivors and the need for empathetic, trauma-informed care.
The event fostered vital discussions on combating gender-based violence, with strong participation from faculty, students, and medical professionals, reinforcing RIMS’ commitment to social justice and human rights.
