SWC Khongman observes 43rd Foundation Day, honours meritorious students

The Social Workers’ Congress (SWC), Khongman, observed its 43rd Foundation Day yesterday at the organisation’s office premises under the theme “Enhance Community Service.” The programme began with a floral tribute to the departed members of the organisation.
As part of the occasion, meritorious students from Khongman Zones 1 to 5 who secured above 70 percent marks in the 2024–25 Class X and XII examinations were honoured with the Meritorious Student Awards. The awards were sponsored by the Late Thingujam Ongbi Ibemhal Devi Memorial Trust, Khongman.
Speaking on behalf of the donor family, District Supply Officer (CAF & PD), Government of Manipur, Thingujam Oxford expressed pride in contributing to the event. He recalled memories of his late mother, in whose name the awards were instituted, and described the moment as deeply emotional. He also urged the youth to value education and community service, while appreciating the SWC for its continued efforts in serving the people of Khongman.
Oxford further recounted the history of the club, noting its humble beginnings with just two rooms and a small ground, and its present development into a venue of national-level recognition. He called for preserving the club’s legacy through a souvenir publication and assured the trust’s support in strengthening its future initiatives.
The function was attended by dignitaries including Moirangthem Nungshirei Devi, former Khongman GP Pradhan, Rinku Khumukcham, Editor, Imphal Times, donor family representative Thingujam Oxford, and SWC president Athokpam Birendra, who presided over the event. Members of the organisation and local residents also participated.
The observance highlighted SWC’s continuing commitment to community development, particularly in promoting youth empowerment through education and sports.
