Imphal, January 27 : A SVEEP Awareness Programme for the PWDs( persons with disabilities) was organised by the District Election Office, Bishnupur today. The programme was held at the Kiyamba Shanglen, Bishnupur Bazar.
District Election Officer Shri M Harekrishna presided the function, and was also attended by many other district administrators and popular figures as dignitaries.
In his speech, Shri Harekrishna urged the public to understand the needs of the disabled persons, instead of merely sympathising them. He added that each disabled person has his own requirements different from one another, and if given opportunity, they are more committed and better performers than the normal persons in their respective jobs.
The DEO appealed all the registered disabled voters to exercise their voting rights carefully and in the right manner.
As a part of the function, a Voter’s Guide (Voter gi Lamjing) was also released. Hundreds of disabled persons from different parts of the district attended the programme. An EVM and VVPAT demonstration programme was also held for them.
It may be mentioned that Bishnupur district has 1397 disabled voters as of now.
