Imphal, April 6:

On the occasion of the International Day of Sports for Development and Peace, the Students’ Union of Kangleipak (SUK) extends heartfelt wishes to the sportspersons and the people of Manipur. Through a statement released by Moirangthem Basko Chanu, the Health and Sports Secretary of SUK, the organization emphasizes the pivotal role of sports in the development of the community and fostering social change.
The United Nations designated April 6, the inaugural day of the Modern Olympics, as the International Day of Sports for Development and Peace in 2013, underscoring the significant contribution of sports to the promotion of peace and human rights. SUK’s statement reflects on Manipur’s esteemed status as a powerhouse of sports, acknowledging the state’s rich legacy of producing numerous successful sportspersons. Despite the challenges posed by ongoing conflicts and the resultant suffering, the athletes of Manipur continue to bring pride and laurels to the state and its people.
While SUK recognizes the efforts made by the government towards sports development in Manipur, the statement calls for further action and enhancement in this arena.
