SUK announces State-level Spelling, Kanglei-Lon Competitions

The Students’ Union of Kangleipak (SUK) has announced its State-level spelling and Kanglei-Lon competitions for 2026, aimed at nurturing students’ knowledge, critical thinking and awareness of language and culture.
The SUK, which has been working since 2011, said the competitions are being organised under the theme, “Bringing out the knowledge of students who remain confined and enabling them to enter the path of knowledge and wisdom.”

The SUK State-level Spelling Competition is organised annually with participation from students belonging to different communities across Kangleipak.

SUK said that despite progress in various fields, concerted efforts are needed to preserve and protect the Manipuri language and script. It added that the “Kangleipak Pumbagi Ariba Lon (Kanglei-Lon) gi Wahanthok Changdamnaba” competition is also being organised annually to promote and preserve the traditional language.

For 2026, the first and second preliminary rounds of the SUK State-level Spelling Competition will be held on August 30 and September 6, respectively, followed by the final round on September 13.

The Kanglei-Lon language competition will have its preliminary round on September 6 and final round on September 13.

The SUK further stated that, depending on the prevailing situation in the state, another round of the competitions may be conducted in October. Under the proposed schedule, the spelling competition will have preliminary rounds on October 4 and 11, followed by the final on October 17. The Kanglei-Lon competition will have its preliminary round on October 11 and final on October 17.

The Students’ Union of Kangleipak appealed to students and teachers of schools, colleges and universities to extend their cooperation and support for the successful conduct of the competitions.
