Sudden release of water from Pukhao Dolaithabi Dam damages crops

The Nahrol Lamjing Phurup, Khewa Phurju, has raised serious concern over an incident that occurred on August 1, 2025, involving the sudden and unauthorized release of water from the Pukhao Dolaithabi Dam. The organization has alleged that the action, carried out without any prior notice or warning, resulted in significant damage to agricultural lands in the downstream areas.
According to the group’s secretary, unknown individuals reportedly tampered with the dam’s sluice gates during a period of continuous rainfall, leading to excessive water discharge. The unexpected surge of water submerged low-lying areas, destroying standing crops including paddy saplings and seasonal vegetables cultivated by local farmers.
The incident has triggered widespread concern among residents of the affected villages, who were caught off guard and had no time to take preventive measures. The sudden flooding is reported to have caused considerable financial loss to the farmers.
Nahrol Lamjing Phurup has condemned the act and demanded a thorough investigation into the matter. The organization questioned the lack of accountability and transparency in managing such a sensitive infrastructure and has called on the authorities to identify those responsible and take appropriate action.
Urging the government to compensate the affected farmers, the group also appealed to local communities to remain vigilant against such reckless acts that endanger both lives and livelihoods
