Tousem, July 18:

Maximum numbers of students as well as teachers of a school in Tousem Sub Division of Tamenglong District, were tested Covid-19 positive after the school authority open by defying the government orders.
A press statement of All Tousem Students Union (ATSU) stated that many students and teachers of Wisdom English School of Tousem Sub- Division, Tamenglong District which remained open amid pandemic defying government order have tested positive for Covid-19 in the last few days.
All Tousem Students Union (ATSU) also stated that some students have shown symptoms for Covid-19. There are also many students attending this school from neighbouring villages as well and some students have absconded while some students are kept in the custody of the said school. The situation is worrying and this needs to be taken very seriously by all.
“There was a clear standing order from the government to close all schools while allowing only online classes. But the managing board and founder of the Wisdom English School has opened the school while defying the government directives which led to this situation which is not expected by the general public as the founder himself is a prominent public figure in many platforms”, Mentioned by ATSU in its press statement.
ATSUM stated that there are some schools that are opened without following Covid-19 SOPs while defying the government directives which should stop immediately for the good of all.
Looking at the rapid rise of Covid-19 positive cases in the area, All Tousem Students Union requested every Village Level Task Force /Village Authority/Youth club/Students Union to make sure that proper SOPs are strictly followed in the respective villages as responsible citizens.
ATSU mentioned that we welcome the directives of the government to go for online class mode, but that this seems to be a distant dream for students and teachers from a remote place like Tousem Sub-Div without proper facilities of availing the online class. Many students and parents are not in the condition to afford a smartphone, network connectivity and power supply are very poor in many villages. Taking a strong note on all these problems, ATSU urged the government to find alternatives so that the students’ career is not disturbed while fighting the Covid-19 pandemic.
The bigger question asked by Imphal Times- Are the District Administration of Tousem Sub-Division unaware of such a blunder of government order by the private schools in Tousem Sub-Division which makes students’ life at risk, who will take the responsibility for all these.
