Amid escalating public anger over continuing violence and civilian deaths in Manipur, students from various educational institutions across the state staged coordinated sit-in protests on Wednesday, demanding peace, justice, and immediate protection of civilians.
The protests reflected growing frustration among the younger generation over the prolonged crisis that has devastated normal life, disrupted education, and deepened uncertainty across Manipur over the past three years.
As part of the first phase of the agitation, students of Sacred Heart Higher Secondary School, Chaoyaima Higher Secondary School, and Manipur University staged a mass sit-in protest at Tronglaobi.
The protesting students condemned the killing of two children in a recent bomb attack, the deaths of three civilians allegedly caused by Indian security forces, the killing of two Tangkhul individuals in an ambush near TM Kasom Khullen, and continuing incidents of violence and destruction in Kamjong district.
Holding placards bearing slogans such as “Our Land, We Must Protect,” “We Want to Live in Peace,” and “Build a Government that Protects Our Future,” the students voiced deep concern over what they described as the continued failure to ensure public safety and restore normalcy in the state.
The protest was jointly organised by All Manipur United Clubs’ Organisation (AMUCO), All Manipur Women Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA), Poirei Leimarol, Manipur Students’ Federation (MSF), and Committee on Human Rights (COHR).
Organisers stated that similar protests would continue across the state in the coming days, calling on the public to unite in safeguarding the future of Manipur and its younger generation.
