Students clash with police demanding implementation of ILP

Imphal, July 23: Around 20 students of Sir Johnstone Higher Secondary School got injured in police action today. The students retaliated and pelted stones at the police personnel damaging some passing vehicles and injuring Sudhir, OC, City Police and another Yumnam Prakash, Addl. SP (Ops). Magazine Secretary of the school, Mairembam Amosh said when they tried to take a rally towards the Assembly Complex demanding the immediate implementation of Inner Line Prmit in the State when they were stopped by police and started beating them up and firing tear gas shells inside the school premise. So the students retaliated and pelted stones on them. He further said that the government must take responsibilities for the injured students.

Among the 20 injured students four of them are reported to be serious. They are identified as Th. Shashikumar (17), S/o Th. Brajamani from Hiyangthan, 12th Science, Deepu Laishram (19), S/o L. Robindro from Kwakeithel, 12th Science, Rawasi, S/o Rafib Ali of Thoubal, 12th Arts and Yumnam Deepak (18), S/o Erabot Thoubal Athokpam who has got head injury due to Lathi charged by police.

It could be noted that students of Churachand Maharaj Higher Secondary School and other schools also tried to storm the ongoing Assembly Session on Tuesday, July 22 which left many of the students injured. Many other student bodies also staged rallies in different parts of the state including mayang Imphal today pressing for implementing ILP system.
