Students’ bodies demand immediate opening of DIET Centre in Jiribam

Four student organisations in Jiribam district have urged the Manipur government to immediately operationalise the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) Centre, alleging that repeated assurances from the authorities remain unfulfilled.

Addressing a press conference, K. Somorjit Singh, President of the Kangleipak Students’ Association (KSA), Jiribam District Council, said memorandums seeking completion of the DIET Centre and appointment of staff had been submitted to the Governor in July 2025 and later to the Chief Minister during his recent visit to the district.

He said student leaders had also met the SCERT Director, who assured them that construction of the building would be completed and proposals for the required staff would be forwarded to the government.

The student bodies demanded the opening of the DIET Centre with the creation and filling of 49 posts necessary for its functioning. They warned that if the government fails to act, they would launch democratic agitation with the support of students across the district.

The press conference was attended by representatives of the Manipur Students’ Federation (MSF), DESAM, KSA and Students’ Union Kangleipak (SUK).
