Stringent action should be taken against those involved in gangrape of teenage girls: Nemcha Kipgen

Imphal, April 21: Minister for Social Welfare and Cooperation Smt. Nemcha Kipgen strongly condemned the recent gang rape of two teenage girls on Cheiraoba evening. “Those culprits involve in such grievous and inhuman act should be taken stringent action so as to avoid incident like this in the coming future,” said the Minister. The Minister had also given assurance for extending maximum assistance in getting justice for the girls.
On the advice of the SW & Coop Minister, a team of Manipur State Commission for Women led by its Chairperson Dr. K. Sobita Devi and members along with Chairperson, Manipur State Social Welfare Board have jointly inspected the case and have also counsel and gave moral support to the victims and the family. Necessary medical examination of the victims had undergone and after the consent of the victims, both the raped victims are handed over to their respective parents.
It can also be noted that after the incident, Chairperson Child Welfare Committee, Imphal East District, Child Protection Officer and Women Police Station, Imphal East have jointly worked out to find the whereabouts of the culprits. As per the report by the team, the culprits are now under the Porompat police custody against the FIR No. 15(4)2017WPS-IE u/s 376D/120-B/363/34IPC and 6 POCSO Act 2012 and interrogation is under process.
Minister Nemcha Kipgen lauded the timely and efficient work carried out by the Manipur police. She also raised concern and appealled to all the young ladies to be on alert whenever they are likely to face such mishap
