Dhanamanjuri University is currently embroiled in a strike, sparked by disagreements over the mode of conducting exams, particularly concerning displaced students’ ability to participate. The December 2023 exams have been delayed due to unresolved issues.
According to student representatives, despite approaching authorities with their concerns, they have faced a dictatorial policy and a lack of responsiveness to their demands for uniform exam procedures.
“We insist on a uniform exam mode for all students,” emphasized a spokesperson from the Dhanamanjuri Students Union. The dispute intensified after an Academic Council meeting, which reportedly occurred without the dean’s knowledge, and where resolutions affecting students were allegedly concealed from the students.
“There’s inconsistency as department-level exams are being decentralized,” added the spokesperson, highlighting the differing treatment of students required to write exams offline versus online from designated centers at DC offices.
The union has issued a stern warning of impending agitation if their demands, including the immediate conduct of the December 2023 exams, are not met.
“Our careers and futures are at stake,” one student said to the media. As the agitation of the students escalated in front of the administrative building, police force has been deployed to quell protesting students at the administrative block.
“If there’s no positive response, we will escalate to shutting down all constituent colleges of DMU and halting university operations,” a representative of the DMU student union stated.
