Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has welcomed the resumption of bus services between Imphal and Guwahati via Dimapur, calling it an encouraging development to restore normalcy in Manipur.
“I extend my warm greetings to all those who have reached Guwahati from Imphal. The resumption of bus services is definitely a very encouraging development for Manipur and yet another step towards normalcy of this beautiful state,” the Assam Chief Minister posted on X while replying to a post made by the Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh.
Khemchand Singh has informed that there was smooth running of public transport services on the route of Imphal-Dimapur-Guwahati via NH-2 for the second consecutive day today (Saturday), with over 200 passengers travelling from Imphal in four buses and six Wingers.
In the meantime, the 125 passengers who were traveling in the bus in its first journey arrived in Guwahati safely on Saturday morning. The bus service is running for the third day today with passenger buses plying on the route.
The bus service was resumed on August 21 after being halted for almost three years due to ethnic violence in Manipur, which erupted in May 2023.
The resumption of the service is being considered as a significant milestone towards restoring connectivity in the states of Manipur, Nagaland and Assam.
