State seeks deployment of Rapid Action Force

The state government requested the Ministry of Home Affairs, New Delhi for deployment of Rapid Action Force (RAF) at Imphal. According to a reliable source, a fax message has been sent to the Joint Secretary (NE), MHA, New Delhi seeking immediate deployment of at least 2 companies of RAF at Imphal for handling the law and order problems. The request for deployment of RAF was made in light of the volatile law and order situation and ongoing agitation in the state for implementation of ILP system which is likely to continue and intensify.  The ill-trained and under-equipped state security personnel have evidently failed to take control of the situation and the state government felt the urgent need to deploy specially trained and equipped force like the RAF which will be able to handle the situation and conduct surgical crowd control operations in a highly professional manner.
