Imphal, Aug 6: In a bit to control the ever rising crime of extortion threat and kidnapping crimes in the state, state police is now all set to procure new gadgets to track down the anti social elements committing the crimes.
Even though many of the physical activities of insurgencies have been put under control to almost at zero level, with the alertness of the well experienced state police commando in valley districts of the state, extortions in the name of fund drive for outlawed organisations are still in rampant using high-tech communication devices, a source from the state Home Department said.
Police commando specialise in counter insurgency operation are facing problem in controlling the newly emerging trend of anti social activities being carried out using new technologies, add the source.
After reviewing the matter deliberately, Additional Director General of Police, Govt. of Manipur had submitted a proposal to the state Home Department about the need to procure new gadgets to fight the new trend of terrorism on May 4, 2016.
In the proposal it is stated home department may sent proposal for procuring of the required gadget to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India under the modernisation of police scheme, the source said. Following the proposal, the state Home Department had forwarded a directive to the DGP of Manipur to procure the said gadgets.
The proposed gadgets for procurement are – 11 numbers of GPS tracking Device to track the location of the caller, 11 numbers of Surveillance Camera System for tracking movement of criminal, 11 numbers of Live Streaming Wi-Fi Spy Camera clock Radio DVR for secret video recording and observing the incident in real time, 20 numbers of spy camera, for clandestinely recording activities, conversation etc., 31 numbers of Satellite Phone for maintaining communication link where cell phone network does not work, 11 number of cell phone data recovery Gadgets to retrieve data from the device, 11 numbers of Computer Data Recovery Gadgets to retrieve data from the device and 11 number of telephone/cell phone tapping device to clandestinely listen to conversation. Besides, the State police also submit proposal for establishing Social Media Labs in all the district police headquarters for collection of Intelligence from the social Media on Extortion and Kidnapping Related cases. For this desktop computer sets along with 24×7 internet connectivity are required.
