State PHED to get Rupees 1300 crore assistance from JICA

Imphal, Oct 22: Stakeholders’ meeting for preparatory survey on Imphal water supply improvement project was organised today at Sangai Hall, Hotel Imphal. 

Speaking on the topic ‘water supply condition of Imphal city (current states and issues) and outline of JICA project’ Chief Engineer, PHED, Manipur, H. Sunil said Imphal water supply improvement project is an upcoming huge project which aims to provide 100% water facilities to the people of in and around Imphal area by 2019-2020. He said the demand of water supply by 2021 is 145 mld out of which 45 mld can be obtained from the Thoubal Project Dam. He added there are 19 water supply treatment plans in Imphal which are all built in the year of 1960 to 1990. As they grew old they are not able to provide efficient capacity of water supply. Thus the new project which will cost around Rs. 1,300 crore after getting sanctioned by JICA in 2019/2020 will be able to provide water connection to every house with a meter connection so that the consumers can be billed according to their consumption of water.
