State observes the 18th Kargil Vijay Diwas

Imphal, July 26: The State today observed the 18th Kargil Vijay Diwas at 1st Manipur Rifles Banquet Hall to pay tribute to those soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the Kargil War in 1999. The observation was organised by Government of Manipur.
Speaking as Chief Guest, Minister for PWD and IPR, Th. Biswajit praised the courage and bravery of the soldiers for their selfless service for the country. Th. Biswajit said that the people should feel proud of the valour shown by the Indian soldiers in the Kargil war. He stressed that we all should give due respect to those soldiers who made ultimate sacrifice and laid down their precious lives for the welfare and integrity of the nation.
On the occasion, Minister mentioned that the people of the country should never forget how our soldiers bravely fought the Kargil war. The soldiers did not fight for money or salary but for the love and unity of the nation, he added. He further stated that seven soldiers from Manipur also sacrificed their lives for motherland during the 74 days long Kargil War.
Minister further said that as a responsible citizen of the country, we all have the responsibility to bring positive change and inclusive development in the society and to build a peaceful and develop nation.
In his Presidential speech, Minister for CAF&PD and Revenue, Karam Shyam said that the sole objective of this observation is to recall the supreme sacrifice and to pay tribute to the brave soldiers who dedicated themselves to the gigantic task of nation building and to protect the unity and integrity of our nation for the future generation.
Appreciating the role of the police in upholding the law of the land, Minister appealed to the police department that people would be encouraged for their support and co-operation in the process of investigation of any crime so that due justice could be delivered to the victims and also to prevent further crimes in the society.
During the function, patriotic songs were presented by the teachers and students of Shri Shri Balmukunda Dev Government Music College, Imphal.
Minister for Forest and Environment, Th. Shyamkumar, Chairman of Hill Area Committee, T.T. Haokip, Parliamentary Secretaries K. Robindro and H. Dingo, Chief Secretary R.R. Rashmi, DGP   L.M. Khaute and other top civil and police officials attended the function.
