State observes Patriots’ Day

Imphal, Aug. 13: The 124th Patriots Day 2016 was observed at various places of the state today in memory of  the brave Manipuri martyrs who were hanged to death on August 13, 1891.
The State level observation began at 8 am with Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, Speaker Th Lokeshwar Singh, Council of Ministers, MLAs and others top ranking officials paying rich floral tributes to the portraits of Bir Tikendrajit and Thangal General at Hicham Yaicham Pat.
A contingent of Manipur Rifles gave gun salute to the martyrs at Hicham Yaicham Pat and Thangal General Temple complex as part of the function. The main function will began at 3.30 evening at Kangla Utra by laying wreaths to the Martyrs which will be followed by floral tributes at Saheed Minar with a General Salute by the contingents of Manipur rifles. Artistes of Shri Shri Bal Mukunda Dev Government Music College will present the opening song after which speeches by the dignitaries will be made. The programme is schedule to conclude with the National Anthem to be played by Manipur Rifles Band Party.
