State Govt felicitates inclusion of Sankirtana in UNESCO’s list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity

Department of Arts & Culture today organized a felicitation function on the “Inscription of Sankirtana in the Representative List of UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity” at Bijoy Govinda Mandap, Sagolband, Imphal West at 2 pm with Chief Minister O. Ibobi as Chief Guest and MLA RK Imo as President. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister stated that we need to put in a collective effort to develop Sankirtana in the state and that the preservation and popularization of the art form is due to the efforts of the masters who deserved to be applauded. It is also an opportunity to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the country to the outsiders as it has been recognized as an intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity since 2013 by UNESCO. Dr. RK Nimai, IAS, Commissioner, Arts & Culture welcomed the attendees on the occasion.
