Imphal, Sept 7:
Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS) president Th. Manihar stated that the Manipur government is a dummy government. Speaking to the media, he stated that after a two-month pause in violence, Kuki militants have resumed attacks, reigniting tensions in Manipur. According to Th. Manihar, recent assaults included drone strikes in Koutruk, a sniper attack that killed a young woman, a bomb attack in Toronglaobi, and a rocket attack on Moirang Koireng’s residence, which claimed one life.
He criticized the central and state governments, describing the Manipur state government as a “dummy” and calling for the immediate removal of the Director General of Police (DGP) and the state’s security advisor. He further demanded that Manipur’s elected representatives, including MLAs and ministers, resign from their posts, accusing them of being “puppets.”
In his statement, Th. Manihar urged the public to pressure their elected officials and called for the cessation of strikes and bandhs by civil society organizations (CSOs). Instead, he encouraged the people to mobilize and prepare for a more coordinated response to Kuki aggression.
FOCS plans to organize a leaders’ meeting with various CSOs to discuss the situation and formulate strategies. Manihar emphasized the need for unity among armed groups to effectively counter the Kuki militants’ renewed offensive, urging collective action to protect the people and restore stability in the region.
