ST status demand for Meitei/Meetei re-embarks

Imphal, Dec 4: Convenor of the Co-ordinating Body Schedule Tribe demand Committee for Meetei/Meitei community, Mutum Churamani today lambasted the Chief Minister of Manipur Okram Ibobi Singh over his inaction to the assurance given to the members of the committee for sending report on why the Meitei / Meetei should not be included to the Schedule Tribe list under the constitution of India.
Speaking to media persons the convenor said that Keithel ladies at various places of the state will stage a one hour protest on December 6 from 11 am till 12 noon by shouting slogans and putting stopping all sort of vehicular movement on the streets.
Churamani asserted that Keithel ladies of various Keithel in the valley districts have agreed to support of the ST demand committee.
Justifying the demand, Churamani further added that the members of the committee had been urging the state government to sent the socio economic  condition of the Meitei/ Meetei people and the Ethnography of the Meitei/ meetei to the Ministry of Tribal Affairs as demanded by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. However as the state government did not initiate any action for sending of the report, the committee sought permission to meet the Chief Minister. On November 28, representatives of the ST demand Committee met the Chief Minister and urged him to call a cabinet meeting or CLP meeting on the special agenda for inclusion of Meitei/Meetei to ST categories with 5 days.
Churamani threatened several form of agitation as the Chief Minister remain silent even after stating that the demand is genuine.
