SSUM celebrates 2nd Foundation Day by giving Looms to widows of fake encounter victims; donates blood at JNIMS

Imphal, March 14: Socialist Students’ Union of Manipur (SSUM) today celebrated its 2nd Foundation Day by presenting Looms to 2 widows of Fake encounter victims. Volunteers of the students’ body also donated bloods at JNIMS blood bank.
Tears rolls down from the eyes of Khumbongmayum Ongbi Ibemcha @ Ingellei, when the volunteers of SSUM handed over the loom at her parental home at Waiton Mamang Leikai in Imphal East district. Her husband Khumbongmayum Ibungo of Thamnapokpi Mayai Leikai was killed in alleged fake encounter with security force in 2007. She was left with four children with tremendous hardship as no assistance or help was provided by the government as her husband was recorded as a member of rebel group by security force. With no means left to support her children she is staying in her parental home to get support from her brother and parents.
“I don’t know how to thank the SSUM, this is perhaps the first time I get support from someone or groups”, Ingellei told with tears rolling from her eyes.
The student body then went at Mongsangei and presented another loom to another widow of a fake encounter victim. Loitongbam Ongbi Ranjita’s husband Loitongbam Sanjit was killed in alleged fake encounter in May 2009. She was left with a son.
Both the widow now joined Extrajudicial Execution Victims Families Association (EEVAM), Manipur. The body of widows of fake encounter victims are presenting fighting for justice at Supreme Court.
Tonaranjan, Publicity Secy. of SSUM said that their organisation will give 3 more looms to more widows who are struggling for survival.
