Special “Sunday on Cycle” rallies held in Imphal to mark National Sports Day

Special editions of the “Sunday on Cycle” cycling rally were organised in Imphal on Sunday as part of the observance of National Sports Day 2026, with participants promoting fitness, healthy living and a drug-free society.

A rally was organised by the SAI STC Imphal in collaboration with the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of Manipur, and 164 Battalion BSF, under the theme “Khelega Bharat, Jeetega Bharat”.

The rally was flagged off by Youth Affairs and Sports Secretary Naorem Praveen, IAS, in the presence of YAS Director M. Veto Singh, 164 Battalion BSF Deputy Commandant Deepak Kannaujiya and SAI STC Imphal Centre In-Charge Maibam Ramani Chanu.

The cyclists began from SAI STC Khuman Lampak and proceeded through North AOC, Chingmeirong, Mantripukhri and Khabam Lamkhai before reaching Ebudhou Marjing at Khubam, Heingang. The cycling rally covered around 10 km and concluded at Ebudhou Marjing.

In a separate programme, 86 Battalion CRPF organised a “Sunday on Cycle” rally in the Lamphelpat area under the aegis of the Inspector General, Manipur and Nagaland Sector, CRPF, and under the supervision of Commandant Saurabh Kumar Choudhary.

The rally was flagged off by Saurabh Kumar Choudhary in the presence of Second-in-Command W. Nandini Devi and other officers and personnel of the battalion. The rally was organised with the theme “Nasha Mukt Bharat” (Drug-Free India) and the slogan “Say Yes to Fitness, Say No to Drugs.”

The initiative sought to promote cycling as an eco-friendly and sustainable means of encouraging physical fitness, improving cardiovascular health and raising awareness against substance abuse and lifestyle-related diseases.
