Imphal, Aug. 13: Athouba Sing-gee Ningshing Thousillup, Sanakonung has observed the Athoubasing-gee Numit-2016 at Sana Konung here today with titular king of Manipur Leishemba Sanajaoba.
As part of the celebration floral tribute was also paid by leishemba sanajaoba before the photo of martyrs of the Kangleipak ningtam lalhou- the freedom fighters of erstwhile Kangleipak and present Manipur.
Addressing the gathering as resource person, Naorem Sanatomba, Assistant professor, Manipuri Department, Manipur University pointed out the need to institutionalise patriotism in the state, while highlighting the contributions made by students in today’s polarised society of Manipur.
He also appealed to inculcate the sense of response and responsibility among people.
Sapam Dilip, Lecturer of LMS law College Imphal said that the main objective of celebrating the patriots’ day is remembering the sacrifices made by our forefathers and to follow their path of “selflessness” for the betterment of Kangleipak (Manipur).
Stating that leaders are not born but should be made by the people to lead them, Dilip said that after Hijam Irabot, not a single mass leader has been produced in Manipur.
“The people of Manipur do not need a thousand IAS officers, but a single leader, who is sincere and responsible. The people shouldn’t wait for leaders to be born because our leaders should be made by ourselves,” Dilip said.
Other speakers also emphasized on the need to include patriotism in the academic curriculum in order to instill the sense of love for his/her country and willingness to sacrifice for it.
They also expressed to celebrate the patriots’ day in a meaningful manner and organise “Athoubasing-gee Numit” over the years from today at different places across the state.
